Feb. 28th -March 4th

We will start a short week. Get ready for it!
Spelling


 

     We will write sentences with the words from the list in class. I included the meaning of each word for you to have them clear before creating you own sentences. The Test will be on Thursday 3rd, 10 words will be dictated  and 10 sentences will have to be written by yourself.

GRAMMAR

We will have our Grammar test II on Wednesday, March 2nd. Remember to review the following topics:

SCIENCE
We will see and talk about Adaptations of different organisms for Climate. Pages A90- 95
  • The Guidelines for the II Term Speech will be distributed during the week. Topics will be raffled in the classroom. Each pair will choose a number that will reveal the topic to be worked and its date. The Speeches will be don during the 14th and 18th of March.



GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

We will talk about Diego Velazquez's  works and life. Boys are asked to bring the following pictures labeled, and cut for Thursday 2nd:

READING AND WRITING

Boys have been working on the front page of a newspaper in class. They have done everyday a part of it. They will finish their work and hand in their article.

Grammar

1. We will reinforce "Subject Verb Agreement" Pages 104- 107 from our Grammar & Writing Book.

2. Present, Past and Future Tense will be introduced. Pages 110-113

Spelling
The contestants for the Spelling Bee will be chosen on Monday 21st .

Everyone has the chance to win. Practice all your Spelling words from the 1st and 2nd Term.

The 5th grade Contest will be held in our School's Auditorium on Feb. 23rd.

The parents of the contestants will be welcomed to join us that day at 9:15 am.

General Knowledge
Our artist of the week is Rembrandt van Rijn.
We will focus our attention in one of his masterpieces, The Night Watch. This picture must be brought , printed and cut on Thursday 24th.

Science
We will work with the topic "What are some Adaptations for Living in Water and on Land?
Boys will be asked to bring two printed pictures, or two colored drawings, that show how adaptations help organisms survive in water and in land.

Reading and Writing

We will finish the story "The Fury of a Hurricane". Boys will bring a picture that shows the strength and consequences ashore of this type of natural phenomenon.

Book Project

Boys have been reading at home the story book "America's Most Wanted Fifth Grader".
Now they will write an article about it, that shows interesting facts of the story.
These are the guidelines for it:


Assignments
1. Practice the words for the Spelling Bee.
2. Bring a Spanish English Dictionary and your supporting material for the Book Project ( list of questions to be answered, mind maps, brainstormed ideas…etc) Remember that the project will be done in class.
3. Pictures that must be printed, cut and brought to class for the week:
  • Consequences of a Hurricane. Tues. 22nd Reading and Writing. (only one)
  • Adaptations that help animals survive in water and on lands. ( one for water & one for land)
  • Rembrandt's Portrait and The Night Watch. Thurs. 24th, for G.K

Feb. 14th -18th

I am pretty sure this week will bring us a lot of love and joy.
Important Assignments:

1. G.K Make- up activity: We will have a make up activity about the topics that were studied for the previous test          ( Renaissance Architecture, Brunelleschi, Baroque Art)
This activity will help you improve your G.K grade , so try to review at home.


2. Science Images for 5C: Remember to paste an example of  Structural Adaptation, Behavioral Adaptation and Mimicry in your Science notebook.


3.Science Test 1: It will be on Friday 18th please review "How are Traits passed Along", Punnet Squares, and" How did Scientist Learn About Inheritance?"


4. Spelling Bee: We will not have a Spelling Test this week. However, boys will be spelling aloud all the words from the 1st and 2nd term. The winners of the classroom contest will represent 5C in our School's Spelling Bee, which will be held on February 23rd.


Important Events




1.  Grandparents Day. This will be on Monday 14th,at 8:30am in our School's gym. Boys will  join grandparents at the mass, and  during the recess. After that, boys will keep on going with  their daily class routine.

2. 5th grade Mass. Parents are welcomed to join us in  our morning mass, which will be held next Thursday 17th and 7:45 am in our School's Auditorium. Boys must bring sweaters or vest.

If there are any changes, I will post them as soon as posible.
